What is a chimney liner?
The main purpose
of a chimney liner is to contain the products of combustion which can be in the
form of liquids, solids, gases and heat within your chimney. Chimney lining
systems should be U.L. Laboratory Tested for Zero Clearance to
Combustibles. It should be installed according to the manufacturer’s
instructions and therefore may provide some sort of a degree of increased
safety. The size of the chimney’s lining system greatly affects the efficiency
of the heating appliance. A square or rectangular shaped tile lining
system is more convenient for construction and therefore most often used, but
less efficient for air flow. Interestingly, round linings are in actual
fact preferred, as smoke travels in an elliptical twist while traveling up the
flue system.
